Call To Arms for the Good of the County

With Castleisland Tidy Towns group at its core, a clarion call is going out for volunteers to help with the annual County Clean-Up tomorrow, Saturday, April 14^th from 10am.

The main focus of attention is expected to be the bypass from the Mick Galwey Roundabout at Dooneen to the Garda Eugene Leonard Roundabout on the Killarney Road.

More Sinned Against

The other approach roads to the town will also be covered but it’s the bypass which is most often and more sinned against in terms of dumping, fly tipping and pure ignorance.

“As you know the county clean up is on Saturday and we’re trying to muster the troops. The town itself is fairly well covered but the approach roads are in very bad condition,” said Castleisland Tidy Towns spokesperson, Mary Walsh.

All Band Together

“We are hoping to get enough people to tackle the Tralee Road from the roundabout back to Knockeen.

“The Killarney Road from the roundabout back towards Lisheenbawn Cross and the Scartaglin Road from the Priests Cross up towards Scart.

“We are aware that many individuals have contacted KWD and will be getting bags themselves and it would be nice if we could all band together and do the job in one go. Many hands make light work as they say.

Meeting Points at 10am

“We hope to go out on Saturday but that might not suit some people and it is possible to go out at any time close to the day.

“We are hoping to get interested groups to meet at the Priests Cross, the Tralee Road roundabout and the Killarney Road roundabout at 10am on the 14th and hopefully clean as much as possible.

A Big Turn Out

“We will have bags and high viz vests, gloves and a few litter pickers to give the volunteers.

“We would love to see a big turn out for this annual event sponsored by KWD Recycling and give our beautiful countryside the respect it doesn’t get from the litter louts who, in spite of all the publicity about the environment, continue littering,” Mary concluded.

Warning to Motorists

There will be a lot of activity on the various approach roads to Castleisland tomorrow and care will need to be taken by all. Volunteer litter pickers will be busy at their task and motorists on these roads should be extra vigilant as the voluntary army will include children and young people.
