Patrick O’Keeffe Traditional Music Festival Chairman, Cormac O’Mahony has called a special meeting of the committee for this Friday night, September 14th at 9:30pm at Fagin’s Bar.
The main purpose of the meeting will be to launch the festival’s Gofundme page as the normal channels of funding will not be available to the festival for the October 2018 event.
Film Launch
A short film made about the origins and being of the festival on its 25th anniversary last year will also be launched on the night.
This will be followed by a session of traditional music and singing to which the musicians of the area are invited.
Financially Beneficial Weekend
The festival provides one of the most financially beneficial weekends to the economy of the community in the Castleisland area and has been doing so since it was founded in 1993.
Monies collected on any given year are always spent on musicians and in the promotion of the festival.
Shortfall in Funding
The launch of the Gofundme page is an effort to make up the shortfall in this year’s funding allocations and all the relevant information will be made available after Friday night’s launch.
This year’s festival, the 26th in an unbroken run, will be shaped by the response to the fundraising initiative being set up on Friday night.
The committee is confident that the drive will be well enough supported to allow the festival to reach the standards which have made it one of the most popular traditional music weekend events in the country.
