Tom Horan celebrated his 90th birthday with family members and extended family from various parts of Munster and beyond at the Castletroy Park Hotel, Limerick recently.

The Limerick venue was chosen as a gathering point for family members who wished to be there for the great occasion as it proved a central location for all concerned.

Lifelong Pioneer

Tom is a lifelong member of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association and a founder member of the Castleisland Branch of Macra Na Feirme.

Membership of the ‘Macra’ organisations helped him enormously in his career as a farmer and he enjoyed the social life it provided.

Parish Choir Member

A member of his local parish choir for most of his adult life, Tom is also very involved in the affairs of the church – which, in his youth, he and his family visited through the couple of fields from his home in Inch.

“I can empathise with Alice Taylor who wrote the book, To School Through The Fields as we never went any other way to school or to church but through the fields.

Simply Shorter

“It was simply shorter for us to go to town in by the bank of the river than doing a big roundabout by road at that time,” he recalled.

Tom was touched by all the good wishes he received from family and friends on reaching his great milestone recently.

We wish him continued good health and happiness.
