Is there anything more evocative of Christmas and its spirit than the sound of a school full of children singing carols?
As schools all over the country opened their hallas, assembly halls and spare spaces to parents, guardians, uncles, aunts, grandparents and cousins, similar heavenly evocation pours from schoolhouse doors all over to delight and, maybe, sadden receptive listeners.
Rehearsals came to Fruition
At Scoil Íde, Curranes, yesterday the culmination of surely weeks if not months of rehearsals came to fruition at 11am and again at 12 noon, to facilitate the huge audience expected and realised for the performances. The musical accompaniment was provided by Catherine Nash.
Former principals, Cáit Daly and Terence McQuinn were there to lend their support.
All pupils from Junior Infants to sixth class sang a range of songs to the delight of their highly partisan audience.
Photographs and Video Footage
Photographs and hand held mobile phones captured both stills and video footage for Christmas entertainment and for posterity itself.
Pupils in 4th, 5th and 6th classes also went carol singing to Castleisland Day Care Centre and Garvey’s SuperValu in Castleisland today 20th December.
They were accompanied by their teacher, Elizabeth Sweeney and Principal Emer Nelligan.
