Team Tom McCarthy’s had a comprehensive win over Limerick Celtics on Friday night when the sides met in Castleisland Community Centre in a Garvey’s SuperValu home game.

The sides last met in October when St. Mary’s took the win in Limerick by 11 points but this time the Castleisland side secured the win by 38 points.
Team Tom McCarthy’s took control from the tip, netting seven points inside the first minute and a half while their superb defending prevented their opponents from getting a shot off.
Impressive Finishing
An impressive finish from Deirdre Geaney saw her hit seven personal points inside the last ninety seconds of the opening quarter.
The home side finished the period with 23 points while Limerick Celtics registered 13, 11 of these coming from Kendall Bradbury who hit over 75% of her sides overall score for the game.
Team Tom McCarthy’s hit 10 unanswered points inside the first three and a half minutes of the second quarter.
It was Kendall Bradbury who registered the first score of the quarter for Celtics.
Scores from Scanlon, Geaney, Dunlea and Leane
Scores from Lorraine Scanlon, Deirdre Geaney, Denise Dunlea and Miriam Leane contributed to a comfortable 22 point lead at the half time interval for the Castleisland girls.
The third quarter was similar, Bradbury and Tinnes shone for Celtics but they were no match for Team Tom McCarthy’s whose team performance was faultless throughout the game, all team members contributing throughout the game. They hit 30 points in the third quarter, 10 of these came from Loretta Maher.
Celtics Fought to the Buzzer
The St. Mary’s girls held a 37 point lead going in to the final 10 minutes. A good performance from Roisín Casey saw her hit 10 of the sides 18 points scored. Despite the gap Celtics fought to the buzzer and had their best quarter of the game sinking 17 points.
Final Score: Team Tom McCarthy’s 96 – Limerick Celtics: 58.

Team Tom McCarthy’s has a double header next weekend. They play U.L. Huskies in Castleisland on Friday night, tip-off at 8pm.
On Sunday they play NUIG Mystics in Galway, tip-off at 2pm.
