Brosna farmer, Noel Lane bought his first, registered Connemara pony in 2008 – Her name is Banríon Álainn.
Along with another filly Holmestead Cheeky Sparrow, bought in 2010, they have been Noel’s foundation mares since.

“These mares are bred most years and have produced some quality foals,” said Noel in the aftermath of the success of his handsome stallion Brosna Jovial Joker in the prestigious ‘Colt Inspections’ at the Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society event at the weekend.
“Brosna is my registered prefix which means that every foal that’s bred on the farm has ‘Brosna’ in its name.
“My breeding policy is to produce performance type ponies for equestrian sports.
“Brosna Jovial Joker was born in 2015 and I always felt he was a bit special because he was from the last crop of foals by Ashfield Jovial Joker which died in 2015 at the age of 28.
Importance of Pedigree Survival
“It is important for the Connemara Pony Breeders Society that the pedigree of older stallions like Ashfield Jovial Joker is kept alive and I am delighted to have bred this young stallion to maintain this breed line.
“The colt inspections were cancelled in March due to Covid-19 and were held last weekend in Creagh Equestrian Centre in Ballinasloe.

“I’m sure my late father, Patrick Lane and his great friend, the legendary Matt Doran, would have been very proud of the fact that we bred a Class 1 Connemara Stallion in Brosna,” said a proud Noel.
