Delia’s Pottery Studio will be running children’s classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm to 5.30pm for three weeks from October 5th in the studio at No. 94 Upper Main Street, Castleisland.
Six to nine year olds will be catered for on Tuesdays and 10 to 12 year olds on Thursdays at €45 per child.
The participants will work on one project over the three weeks. This will involve creating and decorating their pieces and an initial or bisque firing of the work.
“Their creations will be glaze fired in the following three weeks and then they can be collected in the studio after that time.
Two Halloween Workshops
“I will run two Halloween workshops during the break from 10am until 1.30pm on Tuesday and Thursday mornings with the same age groupings,” said Delia.
“This will also cost €45 and will involve creating one piece, making and decorating on the day and I will bisque fire and glaze fire their pieces in the following four weeks,” she said.
Delia is also planning a season of adult classes on Friday evenings over a six week run from 7pm to 8.30pm beginning on Friday, October 8th and will cost €90 per person.
Hand-Building Techniques
All classes will be conducted using hand-building techniques: pinch pots, coil building, slab building,” she explained
“Decorating techniques such as resist, sgraffito, slip decorating, under-glaze painting and the basics on glazing and the making of glazes will be covered.
“I will cover two projects in the six weeks, one vessel based and one tile based – these are not wheel throwing classes,” she added.
Informal Classes with Tea
“These will be informal classes with the kettle boiling for tea which will be served in any of my wide selection mugs and, hopefully, some laughter, chat and lots of creativity,” Ms. O’Donoghue concluded.
