Local pig farmer, public speaker and secretary of the Irish Pig Health Society, Shane McAuliffe applied for and succeeded in landing a Local Action Grant last year for a Hen Harrier Project on his land.
His plans included a wildlife pond and the process got him thinking that the accrued benefits could and should be shared with the wider community.
“So I got in touch with Knocknagoshel Tidy Towns and told them I would work on a biodiversity project for them,” said Shane.
“I’m glad to say it was successful and the Hen Harrier Project has granted €2,500 towards it.
“On this Thursday, November 4th at 8pm in Knocknagoshel Community Centre we are going to have a public meeting.
“The aim is to get more volunteers, or people to join a new committee, and to inform the locals about the biodiversity project and hopefully get other suggestions from locals.
Fingers crossed we get a good turnout,” said a hopeful Shane,”
