Castleisland Desmond GAA Club’s senior Captain Maurice Hickey and his team have organised a Christmas fundraising drive for the squad.
It’s ambitious in nature and outlook and will be used to help the team in its next step in achieving its goals.
Rather than rely on the club’s resources – which has many other demands on it – Maurice and his team have taken this unprecedented step towards self help and self funding.
Pushing the Standards
“We’re currently in division two of the county league and playing intermediate football, we would like to push the standards of the senior team and the improve the level we are playing and competing at,” said Maurice.
“We won the 2020 North Kerry championship and North Kerry League and we’re hoping to go on and win this year’s 2021 North Kerry Championship also, we are in the final on this Sunday.
A Mixed Panel
“We have a very young panel mixed in with a few oldies like myself,” he added.
“We’d like to thank those who contributed to our fundraiser to date and we are hoping that the people of Castleisland and the supporters of Castleisland Desmond’s will help us in achieving our goals – safe in the knowledge that the funds raised will be put to good use.
Top Prizes on Offer
He also added that there are some top prizes on offer for the winners, totalling €900 in cash.
“If any local business would like to support us, we would be very grateful. The fundraiser cards are available from any of the club players or officer or at Lynch’s Pharmacy, Tommy Hickey’s Shop, Vincent Murphy Sports and John Brennan’s Barbers.
“All entry cards must be submitted in advance of the first game on December 26th,” said Maurice in conclusion.
