All at Muire gan Smál Primary School, Castleisland are delighted with the announcement that a new partnership with Music Generation will begin from September 2022.

A music teacher will be working with the boys and girls for the school year introducing them to a variety of instruments and developing their musical ability.

Music Generation strives to transform children and young people’s lives by giving them opportunities to create, play and perform music in their own communities and on their own terms.

Irish American Benefactor

Principal Seamus Moynihan explained that all this has been made possible by the very generous contribution of Leo Murray, who is purchasing all the required instruments for the programme.

“Leo Murray, an Irish American, visited Muire gan Smál some months back looking to trace his heritage in Castleisland.

“His grandmother, Catherine Quinlan, was a pupil in the school back in the 1800s and after thorough searches, school secretary Anne Curtin located Catherine in our roll books.

A Kind Gesture

“Catherine subsequently emigrated to the USA like so many others at the time. Leo Murray wanted to make a donation to the education of the present pupils where Catherine Quinlan went to school.

“It is a very kind gesture by Leo and we are delighted that the programme will give our pupils the opportunity to learn a musical instrument here at the school,” said Mr. Moynihan.
