The good news from RTE Radio 1 is that Aoife Nic Cormaic has cast The Rolling Wave’s sharp ear and close eye on last month’s outstanding Patrick O’Keeffe Traditional Music Festival here in Castleisland.
She has followed a collectors’ path beaten by the likes of Séamus Ennis, Ciaran MacMathúna and Peter Browne and she recorded the Kerry Fiddles Recital at the Ivy Leaf Art Centre on the Saturday of the festival.
The event will be broadcast on the progamme on this Sunday night on RTÉ Radio 1 from 9pm to 10pm.
This was a pure All Sails Aloft event backed up by the kind of preparation needed for a transatlantic voyage by Aidan Connolly who took on the dual role of player and master of ceremonies.
The choosing of the Kerry Fiddles recording was suggested by PJ Teahan, master of the house of Handed Down and World Fiddle Day – which Ms. Nic Cormaic also graced with her presence last May.
In the accompanying clip you’ll see and hear Aidan Connolly and Caoimhe Flannery playing The Galtee Ranger.
Treat yourself, tune into RTÉ Radio 1 on this Sunday night from 9pm to 10pm.
