Eight Teams, Seven Clubs in Garda Carmel O’Connor Memorial Football Blitz

Bright sunshine and beautiful weather prevailed at Castleisland Desmonds GAA Club grounds for the 2023 and 15th Carmel O’Connor Garda Memorial Blitz was held for U-12 girls.

Held, of course before the recent pitch closure due to renovations, a total of eight teams from seven clubs took part, namely: Castleisland Desmonds; Scartaglen; two teams from Duagh; Currow, Knocknagoshel/Brosna; Ballymacelligott and Na Gaeil.

“Some fantastic football was played and each team played three games. Each girl received a beautiful Garda medal to mark the occasion.

Family Representatives

“On the day the late Garda Carmel’s family was represented by her daughter Ruth, grand-daughter Jade and brother Anthony,” said Garda Liz Twomey who headed up the organising group.

Garda Twomey, Junior Liaison Officer was assisted by: Sgt. Eileen O’Sullivan, Community Policing; Garda Niamh Corkery, Garda Eddie Walsh, Garda Michelle Cremin, Garda Seamus Moriarty, S/Gda Michael Wrenn.
