There’s a chunk of breaking political news early this morning from the candidate who generated so much publicity for her Castleisland Local Electoral Area campaign recently.

The Knocknagoshel based independent candidate Michelle Keane, who saw out her unsuccessful campaign with a respectable total of almost 1,400 votes, has put her hat firmly in the ring for the coming general election.

“I am so grateful to all the people who welcomed me into their homes and those who took the time to engage with me and chat about their issues and a special word of sincere thanks to those who voted for me,” she said this morning.

Leave to Pot-holes to the Boys

“I was told I wouldn’t get the support I hoped for in my own village of Knocknagoshel – but I know the people and I topped the poll here and that’s a great source of satisfaction to me and I’m proud of the campaign we put in over the last couple of months. We were instrumental in getting the plans for the new school for the village over the line and people don’t forget things like that for you,” she said.

The Voices of the People

“People told me they want to see me in Dáil Éireann and to leave the filling of pot-holes to the boys who were elected here yesterday. I’m listening to the voices of the people who trusted me with their very personal issues and I’m taking all of them seriously. And they’re telling me there are serious, national issues to be tackled and that I’m the woman to do it,” said Michelle.

Help and Support on Tap

“I’m taking their advice and support seriously and I’m announcing my candidacy for the coming general election and I have offers of help and support from all over the county for canvassing and postering.

“A man from Galway rang me and offered his help with my next campaign and I’m saying here and now I can’t wait – the sooner the better – the bring it on,” she concluded.
