Senior Cycle Art students from Presentation Secondary School, Castleisland along with the boys from St. Patrick’s Secondary School recently embarked on an inspiring trip to the Glucksman Gallery at University College Cork.

Accompanied by their art teacher, Katie O’Reilly, the fifth and sixth year students explored three exciting exhibitions during their visit.

One of the key highlights was the exhibition: Groundwork: Climate Awareness in the UCC Art Collection, which featured remarkable artworks from prominent artists such as John Behan, Amber Broughton, Patrick Collins, and Miriam de Búrca, among others.

Art Reflecting and Responding

This thought-provoking exhibit focuses on the theme of climate change, showcasing how art can reflect and respond to global environmental concerns. The students were treated to an informative and engaging guided tour, led by the assistant curator, which deepened their understanding of both the artworks and the issues they represent.

Reflecting on the visit, Ms. O’Reilly said that the Glucksman is a fantastic contemporary gallery with so much to offer.

Greatly Informed Art Studies

“The students really enjoyed their visit, which will greatly inform their Art studies into the future,” she said.

“This visit to the Glucksman provided the students with a valuable opportunity to experience contemporary art in a professional gallery setting, offering inspiration and new perspectives to enhance their creative development in school.

“The trip left a lasting impact on the students and it enriched their understanding of art and its role in addressing critical issues like climate change,” said Ms. O’Reilly.
