Postponing the Sunday’s October 6th Paudie Fitzmaurice Memorial Tractor Run, in deference to the almost phenomenal rise in popularity of ladies football throughout this huge parish of ours, was the right thing to do on several counts.
There was the health and safety aspect of the decision because many of the stewards needed for the event would want to be in Tralee to support daughters, sisters, nieces and neighbours from Cordal and Scartaglen and Castleisland in their bids to win their respective county football championships. Win they did and with purpose and style.
The graph of that rise in popularity is gone skyward after Sunday’s heroics by the women of the parish and their mentors.
